Granbury ISD has named Dr. Ben Sherley as the next principal of Granbury Middle School. Following board approval at the April school board meeting, Dr. Sherley will officially assume his new role for the 2026-27 school year.
He takes over for Julie Rohleder, who is retiring at the end of the 2025–26 school year after nearly thirty years in public education and the last six years as a principal in Granbury ISD.
Dr. Sherley currently serves as assistant principal at Granbury Middle School, where he plays a key role in supporting campus operations, student discipline, and safety procedures while helping maintain a positive and structured learning environment for students and staff.
“Dr. Sherley brings a depth of experience and a steady, student-centered approach to leadership,” said Dr. Courtney Morawski, Granbury ISD Superintendent. “He understands how to build strong systems, support teachers, and create a safe and engaging environment where students can thrive. We are excited to see him lead Granbury Middle School forward.”
Prior to joining Granbury ISD, Dr. Sherley built an extensive career spanning over two decades with a high school district in California. During his time there, he served in several leadership roles, including principal, director of educational services, assistant principal, and dean of students. Across these positions, he led large campuses, managed districtwide programs, supported curriculum and instruction, and helped expand opportunities for students through initiatives such as early college and career and technical education programs.
In addition to his K–12 leadership experience, Dr. Sherley has served as adjunct faculty at multiple universities, including Tarleton State University, Fresno Pacific University, and University of La Verne, where he has taught courses focused on curriculum, instruction, and educational practices.
“Granbury Middle School is a special place, and I am blessed and honored to have the opportunity to serve as its principal,” said Dr. Sherley. “I look forward to building on the strong foundation already in place, supporting our teachers, and working alongside our families to ensure every student is supported, challenged, and prepared for success.”
Dr. Sherley earned his Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership from California State University, Fresno, along with two master’s degrees in educational administration and curriculum and instruction from California State University, Bakersfield. He has been married to his best friend, Lindsey, for 24 years and they have two children, Kaden, and Peyton.
